Our Story
Coldham Hall FC is based in Lawshall, to the south of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The Club was founded shortly after World War II, originally as a team for the staff of the Coldham Hall estate. In the early years, matches were played on a pitch near the Hall, but in the 1960s the club relocated to its current home of New House Farm, Lawshall, thanks to the generosity of local farmer Billy Richards. His family still kindly allow us to use the land to this day.
The original pavilion still stands and holds decades of sporting history — with cricket scores and team memories quite literally etched into the walls. In the 1980s, the club made the switch from Saturday to Sunday football and has since become one of the longest-standing members of the Bury & District Sunday League.

By 2023, the club faced the real risk of folding. But when a group of local lads asked about starting an under-18s team, everything changed. From that spark, our youth section has grown rapidly — we now proudly run a U7, U8, and U9 teams for boys and girls from surrounding villages, as well as mens football on a Saturday and Sunday.

Coldham Hall FC is entirely volunteer-run. From coaching to groundskeeping, every person involved gives their time to keep the club going and maintain one of the best playing surfaces in Suffolk. Over the years, we’ve celebrated a few cups and titles — but more importantly, we’ve created a space where lifelong friendships and lasting memories are made.

I got roped in to playing for Coldham as a 15 year old when walking past with the dog one Sunday morning; a spectator held the dog and I played in welly’s. 31 years down the line and I am proud to be chairman and seeing the club progress with an enthusiastic bunch of brilliant volunteers.

It is great to see the youth of the villages enjoy the sport that has given me so many happy memories and friends for a lifetime.
Following 20 years as Secretary of the Bury Sunday League, Mark thought he had escaped football administration until being resurrected by the Coldham Club Chairman. Mark is happy to be at Coldham Hall and looks forward to being involved in grassroots football once again.
